How to: Dreadlocks Deep Cleaning

Understanding the Process: To execute a successful Dreadlock Deep Clean, you’ll need a few key ingredients and a bucket big enough to accommodate your dreads comfortably.
Ingredients:
Gather these essentials for an effective deep clean:
- 1/2 – 3/4 cup baking soda
- 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
- 20 drops tea tree essential oil
- 40 drops rosemary essential oil
- 40 drops lavender essential oil
- bucket (big enough to fit your dreads in)
How to:
1. Prepare the Solution:
- Combine baking soda, 10 drops of tea tree oil, 20 drops of rosemary essential oil, and 20 drops of lavender essential oil in the bucket.
- Fill the bucket with water, ensuring it reaches about 2/3 full, and mix the ingredients until the baking soda dissolves completely.
2. Immerse and Scrub:
- Submerge your dreadlocks into the solution, ensuring they are fully immersed.
- Gently scrub your dreads for 10-30 minutes, allowing the cleansing mixture to penetrate deeply. Don’t panic if the water turns brown; it’s a sign that dirt and impurities are being lifted from your dreads.
3. Rinse Thoroughly:
- Once the scrubbing is complete, rinse your dreads thoroughly under running water.
- Discard the dirty water, ensuring all traces of debris are removed.
4. Apply Vinegar Rinse:
- Prepare another solution by adding apple cider vinegar, 10 drops of tea tree oil, 20 drops of rosemary essential oil, and 20 drops of lavender essential oil to the bucket filled with water.
- Allow your dreads to soak in this vinegar mixture for 3-5 minutes, ensuring all strands are thoroughly coated.
5. Final Rinse:
- After the soaking period, rinse your dreadlocks one last time under running water to remove any residual vinegar solution.
Tip: It’s good to do this 1-2 times a year, not more as it might dry your dreads a lot..
