Dread Tips and Stories
After 8 years of making and fixing dreads I’ve met loads and loads of people who love dreads, have them for different reasons and they want to keep on having them. When they are at my studio in Manchester we get to meet each other and have all sorts of interesting conversations about different subjects. We get to find out what is good and bad or better to do with their dreadlocks, how to style them or change them a little bit to make them funkier and healthier. So here are some tips and stories of what I’ve done in some recent maintenances:
Alannah, a beautiful lady form Heaton Moor. I met her a few months ago and gave her a deep maintenance. Her dreads where growing wild and they started connecting with each other, especially at the back.
So I’ve chopped the connected bits and sectioned properly the dreads so they are not overlapping with each other.
Rock on lady, her dreads are looking fab again 🙂
This amazing man came at our studio for a maintenance. His dreads were really long so he decided to go for a trim to give them some air and let them breath a bit in the hot days of summer.
Tip: trimming your dreads is not a bad thing. Really long dreads can sometimes pull the roots and make bold patches. Long dreads can also create neck pains due to their weight and become a little uncomfortable to handle.
So if you can get over the emotional attachment you can chop them a bit 😉
For this young man, is the 3rd time he is getting a set of dreadlocks. The previous times, different reasons made him cut his dreads with the last set being quite badly made. So he decided to get a 3rd set, made knit and tidy by CrafterElena. He says ” Dreads are easy to have. Every morning I can get up and go to work with out thinking of how my hair looks, cs it looks good 🙂 They are not just flat hair.”
Tip: Dreads can give a nice volume to your hair and you don’t have to worry and stress about styling your hair every morning. You can if you want, but you don’t have to 🙂
This young lad has just finished school. The day after his last exam he came to get his dreads done.
Time to go free and wild right???
Tip: Dreads have been for years and years a sign of liberation and freedom in different cultures and forms.
And so for Tom, who has just turned 18 and he is ready to rock the world!!
Harry or Wiestwaf or my x-x-housemate he visited Crafter’s studio in Manchester.
After almost 5 years of dread life he felt a bit too hot. So on a really sunny day he goes to me: “Hey dude, shall we shave the sides today? I want a change and I’m fucking hot lol”
So there he goes, he went for a more viking look now and heeeey, he can get some extra air 😀
