Palm rolling is one of the best things you can do at home to maintain your dreadlocks. It’s simple, effective, and helps your locs stay neat and supported as they mature.
And more than anything… it’s about doing it regularly.
Why Palm Rolling Matters:
Palm rolling helps your dreadlocks keep their shape.
It supports the natural locking process, helps reduce bumps along the length, and keeps fluff more under control, not completely, but a lot more compared to not palm rolling at all.
It’s not about perfect results. It’s about consistency. A little bit every day goes a long way.
When Should You Palm Roll?
The first 6 months are the most important. This is when your locs are forming and settling into their structure.
During this stage:
- Palm roll once a day
- Keep it part of your routine
As your locs mature, you can slow it down. They won’t need as much support anymore, just your regular maintenance.
How to Palm Roll:
Keep it simple.
- Take one dreadlock at a time
- Start from the root
- Place it between your palms
- Roll down to the ends
Use light pressure. Stay consistent. That’s it.

A Tip for Fluffy Locs:
Fluff is normal.
